Lenovo vs HP vs Dell: Which Laptop Brand to Buy in 2022?

Hey, are you looking for a good laptop? But you’re stuck on the laptop brand.

There are tons of great laptop makers out there, but out of all these tech titans, the three companies of Dell, HP, and Lenovo have managed to carve out their slice of the market.

But what makes these great laptops so great?

Keep reading, and I’ll tell you!

Why Compare Dell, HP, and Lenovo Laptops?

Why would I compare these three over Asus or Apple?

It’s because they’re all good value ! But (most) people can only get laptops from one brand, so you’d better make sure you choose a brand that makes quality laptops!

These brands make laptops for different purposes, like business and gaming laptops. The right laptop for you should be able to do everything you need it to on the go.

If you’re really after a computer that can do it all, stay away from laptops and look into desktops. (Dell has great desktops, too!)

Before I compare Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo, let’s get to know them on the business side.

Read on to learn a little more about these laptop brands!

Lenovo: A Brief History

Unlike HP and Dell, the Lenovo business was founded in Beijing. But just because Lenovo has its roots elsewhere doesn’t mean it can’t compete with other brands!

Far from it! With their sleek business laptops and Legion series of gaming laptops, Lenovo laptops are still some of the best laptops around!

Lenovo even makes business desktops!

The Lenovo brand also has more modest budget laptops that often feature dual-core processors.

While you’ll only be capable of doing light gaming on these Lenovo laptops, they’ll still be fast enough to get you through the day!

I should also mention that Lenovo laptops will offer you better sound quality than their rivals, Dell and HP.

So if you’ve got a Lenovo device, you can keep your speakers tucked away!

If you’re looking for a fantastic keyboard, search no further than the HP Spectre x360, the cream of the crop for HP laptops.

Dell: A Brief History

This laptop brand was founded in the Lone Star state, Texas! The Dell brand got their start in Austin, but nowadays, Dell calls the city of Round Rock home.

Dell is also known for making desktops like the Optiplex model, but I’m here to talk about their laptops!

One ultra-convenient thing to note about your Dell laptop is its charger!

Dell laptops have a standard charger port, so you don’t have to worry about pesky unique chargers from model to model.

You can just plug and play as long as you have a Dell charger! (Keep in mind that Dell gaming laptops draw more power for their parts than other laptops.)

With their standard charger port design, even their more expensive laptops can get juice from a humbler charger!

Anyone talking about “more expensive” and “Dell laptops” in the same breath HAS to mention the Dell Alienware line of gaming laptops!

Dell vs. Lenovo vs. HP: Features Breakdown

I’ll compare some of the most important features of these three brands so that you can better pick between Dell, Lenovo, and HP!

Price (Winner: HP)

I’ll start by talking about the price because I know it’s the first thing on everyone’s mind.

So first off, I have to say that Dell makes the priciest laptops on this list.

This is because of a combination of all the high-spec internals that their laptops are kitted out with and their sturdy build quality.

HP and Lenovo make laptops for all budgets, but because Lenovo is strict with maintaining the quality of their Thinkpad line, their laptops tend to be more expensive.

This leaves HP! They make the best budget laptops around, but their reasonable prices don’t mean their laptops are low quality!

Screen and Display Quality (Winner: Dell)

You don’t want to ruin your eyes by squinting at a dim screen. These brands have your back!

These three companies make laptops with different screen sizes for different models. As the laptops get larger, their quality needs to keep up. And Dell laptops deliver!

Have you ever tried staring into the sun before your mom told you off? Dell laptops at maximum brightness are almost as bright as that!

Lenovo devices pack slightly lower-resolution screens, so you won’t get as clear of an experience as you might want.

HP has a few 4K screens, but they’re pretty rare, and they’ll eat into your battery life like crazy.

Stick with Dell for bright, high-resolution screens in all sizes!

Battery Life (Winner: Lenovo)

You can’t always be plugged in. What if you have to pack up and run in an emergency? That’s when your laptop’s batteries will prove their worth.

And in this case, Lenovo takes the crown!

Dell laptops don’t have the best battery life because their batteries are usually only 3-cell. To compare, Lenovo laptops often pack 5- or even 6-cell batteries.

The battery of an HP laptop could be anything from a 3-cell to a 6-cell version. They’re not so consistent.

If you hate hunting for sockets when you’re moving, stick with Lenovo!

Build Quality (Winner: Dell)

You should always be careful with your laptop, but when accidents DO happen, you don’t want something that’ll crack from just a slight bump, right?

This is where Dell laptops shine! They’re built tough, with quality materials and great hinges.

Lenovo makes all kinds of high-quality Thinkpads, but their quality control sometimes lets a few rough-around-the-edges units slip through.

HP laptops aren’t too flimsy either, but their devices aren’t as tough as Dell.

CPU, GPU, and RAM (Winner: Draw!)

These three brands mainly use Intel processors and integrated or discrete graphics cards. They also usually come with 8GB or 16GB of memory.

Since they’re stuffed with the latest parts, you can expect high-performance laptops from all of these makers.

Neither of them really comes out on top since you can find the latest and greatest parts throughout their catalogs.

Lenovo vs. HP vs. Dell: What’s the Big Difference, Anyway?

The main difference between Dell, HP, and Lenovo is their FOCUS.

The crowning glory of all Lenovo laptops is the Thinkpad series, which are firmly business laptops.

HP laptops are popular for their budget models, like the HP Envy.

If you’re looking at high-end laptops, look at a Dell laptop. Dell laptops are known for their excellent build quality and their price!

Final Comparison Time: Dell vs. HP vs. Lenovo, Which One’s Better?

After looking at all of these laptops, I’d recommend Dell laptops in a heartbeat!

Their build quality is miles ahead of HP and Lenovo laptops, but at the same time, so is their price!

But you don’t have to stick with Dell laptops if you don’t want to! There’s a Lenovo or HP laptop for you, depending on your needs!

Go for a Dell Laptop If:

You want a high-performing device that can handle anything!

Budget isn’t an issue for you.

for you. Sturdy, tank-like laptops sound attractive to you.

Go for an HP Laptop If:

You’re on a tighter budget

You need a dependable daily driver for lighter tasks

You want the best typing experience

Go for a Lenovo Laptop If:

Should You Buy a Lenovo Laptop? Pros and Cons of Buying Lenovo

Getting a new computer is a big deal. Not only is it a major financial investment, but with so many options it is often a challenge to find the right one for you. Do you want something suited for the office, school, or are you looking for something more to have fun with? What brand should you choose? And of course, do you want a desktop computer or something more mobile like a laptop?

If your goals lean more toward getting a laptop, the choices from Lenovo are worth considering. While the Lenovo brand doesn’t quite have the name recognition other brands have, their computers have steadily been gaining the attention of industry experts. Here are some top points to help you discover if buying a Lenovo laptop or desktop computer should be your next purchase:

Pro: Laptops with a Lot of Innovation

Lenovo laptops have recently seen significant improvements where it counts. Their graphics are better than ever, with powerful processors and graphics cards becoming the standard. All of this while the actual size of laptops has shrunk, making them far more convenient and travel-friendly than ever before.

When spending the money on a new computer, you want to get the best investment. Lenovo is consistently cited by experts as pushing the needle when it comes to innovation. One great example of why you should buy a Lenovo laptop is the screen-based keypad available in many models that transitions from a traditional keyboard to illustration pad to e-reader at the touch of a button. Other notable innovations increase the power and storage capacity beyond traditional laptops, without sacrificing power.

Con: Lenovo Design Is Considered too Standard

One area that is majorly lacking when it comes to Lenovo laptops is their overall look. Many of their laptops have a straightforward “business” design that doesn’t make the best first impression on most users. The design of their machines also isn’t very intuitive for high demand applications like gaming and digital media production. This is something important to keep in mind if you are looking for something with that “cool” factor when going to buy a Lenovo laptop.

Pro: Lenovo Machines Are Amazingly Affordable

One of the top reasons why people are hesitant to upgrade their laptops when needed is the cost factor. Buying a laptop can be as much as a car-sized payment and create a financial burden. This is especially true if you want to use your laptop for high-performance applications.

Lenovo offers items that are very affordable. Instead of shelling out potentially upwards of two grand you can buy a Lenovo laptop for much less: typically about half that price, and even less if you are looking for a basic version or refurbished model to cover everyday needs.

Pro: Battery Life Goes Far Beyond Other Devices

Laptops are designed for computing on the go. But when you are traveling, you can’t always guarantee you’ll have access to charging points. That is why one of the most critical considerations for people deciding on whether to buy a Lenovo laptop or other model is battery life.

Most Lenovo laptops get by with running consistently for half a day before needing a recharge. If you are using the laptop for casual applications that use less power – such as typing, internet browsing, etc. – many of Lenovo’s newest products can last up to 15 hours before needing to recharge! That is practically unheard of in the laptop industry and can give you greater power without worrying about running the battery down as you go.

Con: The Laptops Don’t Offer Much Durability

While Lenovo laptops are designed to be economical, the downside is their durability. Repair technicians have stated that poor internal configurations with unreliable cooling systems have caused a host of problems. Many Lenovo laptops also utilize plastic for parts that don’t stand up well to pressure or the normal wear and tear of daily use. As a result, any kind of fall is liable to result in damage.

If your Lenovo breaks it can be tough getting it repaired, and Lenovo doesn’t have as many dedicated repair centers as other brands. This leads to slower response times and taking longer for customers to receive the laptop back following repairs.

Pro: Brand Versatility to Cover Your Needs

After your smartphone and perhaps a tablet, your laptop is likely your biggest gateway to the online world. But just because laptops are useful, that doesn’t mean we all have the same use for them! Lenovo is one of the most versatile brands on the market. They offer multiple options that make their low pricepoint even sweeter, including:

Innovative 2-in-1 laptops for business

Powerful laptops for gaming and digital creation

Budget laptops that provide performance at a value

Ultraportable laptops for people on the go

No matter what you want to use your laptop for, Lenovo has a great solution. Since their brand is so versatile, you know you can find a great deal with the best performance for whatever application you have in mind.

Discover Why Lenovo Is Popular

When it comes to buying a new laptop, you may be tempted to go straight for the bigger name brands. But in a lot of ways Lenovo laptops are on par with – or even exceed – the highlights of any mobile computer available. These machines offer a versatile selection of options with innovative features at remarkably affordable prices. Though Lenovo isn’t as recognizable as brands like Apple, Dell, or HP, the buyer benefits from that with more competitive pricing for a computer that is often just as reliable and powerful as its more expensive counterparts. You just may want to consider Lenovo as your next laptop buy.

Used & Refurbished Lenovo Desktop Computer

Response is quick and tracking info is always accurate. In this case, the article arrived in good condition and worked out of the box. There were additional components not in the description that were appreciated and added to the value, making an overall great value. The Lenovo is very easy to upgrade and I was able to easily double the RAM and add a second SSD drive to quickly get it where I needed. Over all it was a great deal. I am going to use it to replace my 12-year-old worn-out desktop. It's so much quieter too, makes almost no noise at all. If you don't need to upgrade, the "Tiny" form factor would be a good choice too. FYI, I first tried the Amazon Refurbished market and was sent a machine different (and older) than I ordered. I sent that one packing and came back to Backmarket and got a great deal.
