What Is Network Architecture?

Network architecture refers to the layout of the network, consisting of the hardware, software, connectivity, communication protocols, and mode of transmission (i wired or wireless). This FAQ will introduce you to the concept.

Defining Network Architecture

Network architecture is the logical and structural layout of the network, consisting of transmission equipment, software and communication protocols, and infrastructure (i wired or wireless) transmission of data and connectivity between components.

There are 4 different network topologies: star network, a bus or line network, a loop or ring network, and a mesh network.

The different topologies can be arranged in different ways, described as LAN (Local Area Network), MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), and WAN (Wide Area Network), where the network extends over a local area (<1 km), metropolitan (<100 km), and long distance area, respectively.
